Wed, 1 March 2006 ---PodShow's "Undition" Pays Off For a Host of New Shows Added to the PodShow Podcast Network---SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. March 1, 2006--- PodShow, Inc., the premier brand in podcasting, welcomes A Guy, a Girl and a Bottle, to the PodShow Podcast Network. The pioneering "Vinecast" is now available on the PodShow Podcast Network (http://www.gngnb.com), introducing the largest network of independent podcast listeners to Joe and Lori as they discuss wine tastings, deliver guided vintner tours and interview wine-experts sharing information and commentary suitable for all wine enthusiasts. Due to the popularity of the show and the greater exposure afforded by the PodShow Podcast Network, Podshow is already entertaining sponsorship inquiries from major brand marketers that intuitively understand the value of this media property. "Joe and Lori have a really compelling chemistry and an excellent format that highlights podcastings' 'theatre-of-the-mind' charm,'said Adam Curry, PodShow Co Founder and President. I'm looking forward to the new vintage "cheers to Joe and Lori." A Guy, a Girl, and a Bottle were exposed to PodShow through a November 2005 promotion named "The Undition" which enabled over 2000 podcasters to nominate their own shows for addition to the PodShow Podcast Network. Recent additions to the PodShow Podcast Network now enjoy promotion and feature placement across a network of millions of listeners in PodShow's leading directories, communities and listener destinations - PodShow.com, Podcast Alley, indiePodder.org, Podsafe Music Network, Sirius Satellite Radio and PodFinder for iTunes. Additionally, these shows are delivered from PodShowPDN, the first, truly high-performance content delivery network meeting the specific needs of podcasting. Over the coming months, the company will announce many additional shows that have joined PodShow via the PodShowPDN initiative, and the company is expected to release a series of technological innovations that will dramatically improve consumer discovery and enjoyment of podcasts in any environment. "We're very excited to be a part of the PodShow family," said Joe Carpenter of A Guy, A Girl, And A Bottle. "We've just recently joined the network and we're already seeing results - these guys know how to develop commercial success." About A Guy, A Girl and A Bottle Hosted by Joe Carpenter and Lori Leahy, A Guy, a Girl and a Bottle is an innovative, experiential wine podcast exploring wineries and wine culture from a novice-wine-drinker's perspective. A Guy, a Girl and a Bottle profiles many wineries that are often overlooked as travel destinations, enabling more people to visit and enjoy the exclusive, rare and limited-production wineries treasured by collectors and industry insiders. Recording on location, Joe and Lori help their audience understand wine in plain terms with honest reviews, and, as a result, real people are discovering and sharing new favorite wines and entertaining with more confidence. The weekly show started in July 2005, and is available on the PodShow Podcast Network (www.podshow.com).

Wed, 14 December 2005 We may be biased, but BusinessWeek calls podcasting one of the Best Ideas of 2005. "There are now more than 20,000 podcasts online on topics from learning French to Scottish music. Although championed by indies, podcasting has been adopted by media giants such as Clear Channel Communications, Walt Disney, and National Public Radio." In BusinessWeek's view, "Everyone is trying to figure out how to make podcasting pay. As with bloggers, few podcasters are likely to make money. Even so, thousands can now create free content that will compete with traditional media for listeners attention." Entire article can be found at Business Week. -The Guy Category: general -- posted at: 12:31 AM Comments[0] |

Wed, 26 October 2005 A Guy, a Girl, and a Bottle was recently featured by Agence France-Presse (AFP) newsagency. Several other news organization around the World have picked up the story and published it as well. News organizations include: Mubai Mirror Turkish Press Middle Eastern Times PhysOrg.com and others. It seems like everyone is interested in the wines 'In and around Silicon Valley' ! -The Guy ***************** The article as published appears below: From pop to porn, Internet opens new frontier in radio programming AFP October 13, 2005 WASHINGTON -- Where else does a pagan witch vie for listeners with the mighty BBC, or President George W. Bush joust for airtime with amateur porn stars or Ray and Viv, a couple who dole out 'good home cooking' from their kitchen in Ohio? Every hour of every day, "podcasts" - the latest front of the online revolution, let listeners download audio files and homemade radio programs onto personal computers or take them on the move with iPods or MP3 players. "Podcasting" has exploded in popularity over the last year, allowing a motley collection of self-styled DJs, talk show hosts and plain bores to spout off to the world. Once the territory of computer geeks and the lunatic fringe hobbyists, podcasting is becoming big business, as giant global media firms sense a lucrative new market for their programs. No longer are listeners slaves to geography or radio schedules, but can take their morning news show on the train or tune in to a favorite chat show at any time. Internet giant Yahoo gave the burgeoning industry a huge boost on Monday, debuting a podcasting portal that works like a search engine, allowing listeners to find programming on any subject. Other firms, including Apple with its iTunes, already offer a similar service. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) recently launched an experimental podcasting service and major news firms like NBC and ABC already distribute podcast material. US sports giant ESPN has a podcast as does its cousin TSN in Canada, where national broadcaster CBC is in on the act but recently found itself on the wrong end of the podcast revolution as locked out workers used the technology to mobilize during an industrial dispute. "The phenomenon is growing ... it is still at the toddler stage and [Yahoo's move] will put it into early adolescence," said Lee Rainie, of the Pew Internet and American Life Project in Washington DC. The range of programming already available is stunning. Only podcasting could offer a chat show in which crusty beer drinkers ponder which brew compliments a delicate fish dish than "Craft Beer Radio"? Curious about life in the airline industry? Tune into "Fly With Me" as an anonymous captain on a "major US airline" takes you inside the cockpit and interviews flight attendants. Anyone with a puppy problem needs "Dogcast Radio", while the weak of faith can try a "Godcast" sermon from countless US churches or rebel with the "Pagan Power Hour" on Wiccan Talk Radio. "The spectrum runs from the completely debauched, awful kind of stuff, to the most high quality, high tone stuff," said Rainie. Sound and content quality varies widely. The latest edition of "American Atheists" for instance sounds like it was recorded in a cookie tin. And life might be too short to take in "A view from the couch" in which co-hosts John and Lainee waffle on about coffee, television shows and masturbation. Many podcasters feel that they are striking a blow at big media. "We do feel that podcasting as a medium does give us a unique voice in the distribution of our work," said Joe Carpenter, co-host with friend Lori Leahy of California-based weekly wine podcast "A Guy, a Girl and a Bottle". "Podcasting eliminates the distribution hurdle as well as liberating our content, allowing anybody to produce and distribute material and take it with them," he said, adding that the pair's eight shows from different vineyards so far have generated "thousands" of listeners worldwide. But that freedom also opens the Internet's dark side. "Eventually, the worst elements of human nature will show up. There is already porn podcasting and you have got to believe there will be an Al Qaeda podcast in the not too distant future," said Rainie. A search of the Yahoo database reveals a myriad of "explicit" content, ranging from the sounds of human lovemaking to cringe-making amateur porn. And where there is a captive audience, it is a fair bet that politicians will show up. Rising star Illinois Senator Barack Obama already chats away on a personal podcast, and the White House offers Bush's Weekly Radio Address. Listeners should be careful not to click by mistake on the "official parody" of Bush's chat where an unnamed comedian hits back at the president. In one episode he reveals the latest plan to combat terrorists is "to stick up a map" and mark where they are with pins. © 2005 AFP Category: general -- posted at: 12:01 AM Comments[0] |
